PORT FAIRY AUGUST 22nd, The HAPPY HOOKERS first venture at off shore Charter Fishing.
Booked into the Caledonian, or The Stump as it was locally known. Good spot too. Beer great, meals good, motel rooms, and close to centre of town.
The weather was a bit against us. Saturday did not look too promising so the offshore thing was delayed until Sunday. Sunday morning the dawn message was rain and the wind up and getting stronger. The skip tried to talk us out of it but we were going fishing.
Debbie’s first crack at this caper and with 3 metre swells it was definitely her last. However once she started to catch fish – well that made it better.
With foreboding weather predictions we did not go too far offshore. Fishing was slow to start but a couple of moves and George landed a flathead, then Debbie a 1kg Parrot fish and the race was on. Everyone caught fish – almost. Ken was too busy writing down the weights and we will not talk about Jackos’.
When the weather began to prove true to predictions we packed up and headed for The Stump. A warm by the fire, a hot lunch, and home. Yep it was a good weekend.
