KYALITE RIVER REPORT (12/12/11)
If you can fish- you catch fish at Kyalite. After a successful Interclub October Event and Cod opening it is obvious the rivers are in a healthy state. Yellows are in excellent shape and the average catch is larger than normal. Dick Reynolds of Ararat landed a 1.5 kg beauty on Sunday. Most Cod seem to be around the 60 to 70cm range. The rivers are full of tucker, all fish caught are chockers with yabbies. Obviously the Fish are not real hungry so you have to work them hard to get one for the pan. River heights have been fairly high but in the past 10 days seemed to have settled down to a summer level. Good boating in the Wakool but be careful in the Edward, lots of timber. Access tracks in and around Kyalite have dried out and should present no problem getting to your favourite camp site… just be a bit careful some tracks washed fairly well with the heavy rains earlier in the year. ( Probably the only one still not accessible is into Clear Water on the Stoney Road). The authorities were out and about over Cod opening. Seems it pays to have all your gear and you all legal and up-to-scratch. Boats and drivers licenced, gear right- a few got done for having springers in their boats. Forest report. The National Parks have put “No Solid Fuel Fires” signs up all over the bloody joint. Ken has tried to ring the National at Yanga but not able to get through. Not sure what it is all about. We all know fires are taboo on declared days but… the Kyalite Forests are designated REGIONAL PARKS . This means you can camp recreate, have your dog and a camp fire. Not sure, to find out try ringing the National Park Ranger at 03 50201754. Coming to Kyalite over Christmas ?? call in to the pub and say G’day. Have a couple of coldies, get your fishing licence. Check your bait we’ve got worms-bardis-frozen yabbies-prawns-squid. Fishing tackle and camping gear.
