In 2008 it was a pleasant week exploring South Australia’s wonderful Yorke Penisular. A stay at the Innes National Park. Fish were not hungry but the touring was great. Magnificent beaches rolling coast lines and indulgent Pub meals all finished off in the best possible way.
A Friday night visit to Football Park. In the Corporate Box, as guests of Vickys’ brother Fred, we saw Collingwood convincingly defeat Port Adelaide.

That was a pretty good way to finish a weeks break.
Well it was but it was to close to telephones so in 2009 it was off to Boulia. Yep Boulia in Queensland on the Longreach – Alice Springs Highway. Been waiting a number of years for this. A week to get there, a week bush camping to explore and enjoy Boulia’s hospitality and a week leisurely drive home.
The week at Boulia did not happen. If you want to bush camp do not go to Boulia – you will not be welcome.
Augie and Enid took the reins and we were off, Burra, Port Pirie and Port Augusta.

Then to Marree. Flew over the Lake had a great Friday night at the Pub.
Then it was off the Mungerannie and an overnighter at Birdsville.

Snaps shots along the track. Ken thinks this all right He’s got one Blue Ute that is.

Eyre Creek near Bedourie. Boulia Tourist Office had sent us lots of glossy brochures promoting fishing and bush camping. We got there to discover they do not exist. In fact we were not made welcome at all
The message loud and clear If you want to bush camp stay away from Boulia !!!!!
Actually did us a favour we discovered the Diamantina National Park. The Diamantina had had a flush and more rains coming. The fish were on the go, caught stacks, most went back in, some went into the smoker and a couple into the esky for the trip home.
Great place, great camp site, tourist drives well worth the effort and the Park ranger, Barbara, friendly and helpful.

From the Diamantina Park, back to Bedourie. Then down the border to Inaminka. Both enjoyable places, with locals friendly and more than willing to help our tyre problems.
From Innaminka across to Noccundra, Tiboburra, Broken Hill and home to Kyalite. Unfortunately we lost a camera just out of broken Hill. With it went many of the trip snaps.
Fortunately not all were lost. We enjoyed the drive it’s a great country and to see it, all you have to do is pack your swag and turn the ignition key
