A giant Murray Cray, believed to be the world’s largest was caught last Wednesday in the Edwards River at Pine Grange near Kyalite.
Owner of Pine Grange Mr Peter Spinks said that in the previous few days He had found several sheep carcasses near the banks of the river.
He said that although at first He suspected dogs It was during a conversation with a fisherman, Mr Charlie Smith of Stawell who was camped nearby that, remembering the recent un usually cold weather, he began to suspect something else.
He said when Charlue mentioned he had lost a small kelpie from the campsite they decided to set a trap. Using a fresh sheep carcass and steel cabling the trap was set near the camp site
It was a jackpot on the second night with this giant Murray Cray being snared.
Seen here with Helen Smith the Cray will be delivered to Fisheries personnel for verification of size and weights.
